Hi, I'm Kelley
I am a natural born organizer, encourager, educator, and learner. In 2nd grade, I started a school for my dolls and my younger sister (the dolls loved it-my sister-not so much) in our basement.
My passion for teaching was ignited!
I went to Hope College in Holland, Michigan to become an elementary school teacher. After graduation, I taught in public and private schools with my K-8th grade teaching certificate. Once I had kids of my own, I began my homeschooling journey. I have taught not only my own kids, but led co-ops and tutored kids of all ages.
As my kids graduated from high school and left for college, I taught for a homeschool charter in California, overseeing the educational plans for multiple families and working closely with parents to support their homeschooling journey. From getting them started, picking out curriculum, setting up a space to “do school” in their home, to helping them find playgroups, art classes, and creating a schedule that worked for the whole family, I loved every second of my time with “my” families!
Since moving to beautiful Traverse City, Michigan in 2018, I have been working with homebound students who are temporarily unable to attend a regular brick and mortar school due to medical/mental health issues. As our state went into shutdown in March of 2020, I moved to a virtual platform to help my students with their schoolwork. This experience enables me to tutor students anywhere. We all know how hard virtual schooling can be, but for all of my families, I was able to reduce stress, offer encouragement to students and parents, and help my students learn. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to help other people succeed!
When I am not tutoring students, I am outside hiking, kayaking, running, swimming, snowshoeing or skiing. I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, doing crafty things, and playing card games with friends.
